Change the app's language
Viewfinder follows your device's language when it is one of the 41 it speaks, and English (US) otherwise. To choose another, open Settings, General, Language.
- Open Settings and go to General.
- Tap Language. The first entry, Automatic, follows the device and names the language it resolves to.
- Pick a language. Each is listed in its own words, for example Español or 日本語.
The app's own words change at once. Dialogs that belong to iOS, such as permission prompts and the share sheet, change the next time the app opens.
The list includes regional versions: English (UK) uses British spelling, and there are separate versions of Spanish for Latin America, French for Canada, Portuguese for Brazil and for Portugal, and Chinese in simplified and traditional characters.
What stays as written
Camera, lens and brand names are never translated, so an ALEXA 35 is an ALEXA 35 in every language. Units follow your Distances setting.
Right-to-left
Arabic, Hebrew and Farsi read right to left. Lists, sheets and Shots mirror; the viewfinder's controls stay put, as on a camera.
The Watch
The Apple Watch app follows the language chosen on the iPhone, from the next time the Watch app opens.
If that didn't work
If some words still show in the old language, close Viewfinder from the app switcher and open it again.
