What stays on your device, and what reaches Cutvey
Your shots, custom gear, favorites and looks are kept in the app's own storage on the device, and none of them is uploaded to Cutvey. Cutvey's server is reached for a Cutvey sign-in and its checks, and for crash and usage reports while that switch is on.
On the device
Stills, takes, their titles and notes, your custom cameras and lenses, favorites, looks and imported LUTs all live on the device. Viewfinder keeps no cloud copy of them and does not sync them. What leaves the app leaves because you save it to Photos, share it, export a PDF or send a gear request email.
The shot library is also kept out of iCloud and computer backups. A phone restored from a backup starts with an empty library, so save or share what you want to keep before you change devices.
What reaches Cutvey
- Crash and usage reports, while the switch in Settings, Crash and usage reports, is on. They carry no account identifier, and your frames, shot lists and location are never collected. Turning it off discards anything not yet sent.
- A Cutvey sign-in, only if you use one: your email and codes go to Cutvey, the app checks in to keep the membership current, and your agreement to the documents is recorded. To let one membership cover your iPhone and iPad, iCloud is asked which Apple Account this is.
A purchase goes through the App Store; Cutvey is not involved in it. Your data is never sold.
What the app asks iOS for
- Camera: to frame, and to take stills and takes.
- Location, while using the app: to place the sun and, if Tag shots with location is on, to tag shots.
- Microphone: only when you turn it on for a take.
- Photos, add only: to save the shots you choose. Viewfinder never reads your library.

If that didn't work
To stop all reports, turn off the switch in Settings, Crash and usage reports. To stop location tags, turn off Tag shots with location in Settings, General. Questions go to [email protected].
