Free shot list template
A spreadsheet with the same columns as the app's PDF shot list, what goes in each one, and which of the app's three PDF depths each person on the crew wants.
A shot list is the one page that lets a whole crew prepare for the same day. The camera team reads it for lenses and rigs, the first AD for the order and the time each setup takes, the gaffer for where the light has to come from. This template uses the columns Cutvey Viewfinder prints on its PDF shot list, so a list made by hand and a list exported from a scout read the same way.
Download the shot list template (CSV). It opens in Numbers, Excel or Google Sheets, with 40 numbered rows and nothing filled in.
The columns
The first twelve columns are what the app's Basic PDF prints for each shot. The last four are what the Full PDF adds. Fill in what you know; an empty cell is better than a guess.
| Column | What goes in it | Example | Printed on |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shot | A number that never changes once the list is out, even if the order does | 001 | Basic and Full |
| Title | A name a person can say on set | Kitchen wide | Basic and Full |
| Scene | The script scene, or a section of the day | 4 | Basic and Full |
| Camera | The camera body | ARRI ALEXA Mini LF | Basic and Full |
| Mode | The recording mode, exactly as the camera names it | 4.3K LF 16:9 | Basic and Full |
| Lens | The series and focal length | ARRI Signature Prime 29 mm | Basic and Full |
| Focal | The focal length, its full frame equivalent and any squeeze | 29 mm, about 29 mm full frame | Basic and Full |
| Frame | The delivery aspect and the horizontal angle | 1.78:1, 63.1° across | Basic and Full |
| Captured as | For a vertical frame, cut from the wide frame or the camera on its side | Extract 9:16 | Basic and Full, vertical only |
| Media | A still, or a take with its length | Recorded take, 0:12 | Basic and Full |
| Look | The grade or LUT you have in mind | Warm day | Basic and Full |
| Notes | Movement, cast, props, anything the crew must know | Push in to the sink on the line | Basic and Full |
| Time | When the frame was found or will be shot | 2026-11-02 16:40 | Full |
| GPS | Where the camera stood | Latitude, longitude | Full |
| Bearing | The direction the camera faced, from true north | 214° true | Full |
| Project | The production | Your project's name | Full |
The example row is gear only. Its angle and full frame equivalent are computed for the ARRI ALEXA Mini LF in 4.3K LF 16:9 (35.64 mm wide), counted November 2, 2026: 2 × arctan(35.64 ÷ 58) = 63.1°, and 29 × 36 ÷ 35.64 = 29.3 mm.
How to fill it in
Number shots once. When a shot moves in the schedule, keep its number. A shot list that renumbers itself between versions sends people to the wrong row.
Write the mode in full. "4K" on a camera with three 4K modes leaves the first AC guessing, and the frame depends on it (see sensor size and field of view).
Give the angle as well as the lens. If the camera changes late, the angle is what you are really trying to keep. The field of view calculator gives it for any camera and mode.
Put movement in Notes. "Dolly left to right, 6 ft" tells grip what to bring.
Keep Time and GPS for the Full version. Most of the crew does not need them. The AD and the locations team do.
The app's three PDF depths
Cutvey Viewfinder exports the same shot list at three depths, chosen when you export, because the director, the camera team and the AD want different things from the same scout:
| Depth | Page | Shots a page | What each shot shows | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Frames Only | Landscape contact sheet | 12 | The picture, nothing else | The director, scrolling on a phone between meetings |
| Basic | Portrait | 2 | The picture, a shot number and title, camera, mode, lens, focal, frame, captured as, media, look, scene and notes | The DP and camera team |
| Full | Portrait | 1 | Everything in Basic, plus time, GPS, bearing, project, a code that opens Apple Maps at the spot and a tappable map link | The first AD, locations and the producer |
All three come on US Letter or A4 with white pages for the office printer. The names are printed as they were when the frame was taken, so renaming a lens later never changes an old shot list.

Paper or app
The template works with nothing but a pen. Where the app saves time is in the columns that are tedious by hand: camera, mode, lens, focal, angle and time are written for you when you take the frame (GPS and bearing too, when location is allowed), and the picture sits next to them. A still is HEIC, with the simulated camera and lens in its EXIF; a take is the composed frame in HEVC, and its camera and lens live in the shot record and in the info strip burned into the picture, when the strip is on.
Shots stay on your devices unless you save, share or export them. If you scout with the app and plan in a spreadsheet, export the Basic PDF for the pictures and copy the rows into this template.
Send a PDF shot list to the crew has the export steps, where are my shots explains the library, and how to tech scout shows where the list comes from.
Questions
Is the shot list template free?
Yes. It is a CSV file with the column names and numbered rows, and it opens in any spreadsheet app.
What is the difference between the Basic and Full shot list?
Basic prints two shots a page with the camera, mode, lens and notes. Full prints one shot a page and adds the time, GPS position, bearing and a map code.
Can I get the template as a PDF?
The template is a spreadsheet so you can edit it. Cutvey Viewfinder exports finished shot lists as PDF, on US Letter or A4.
