Frame for vertical (9:16)

Choose Vertical under Orientation in Settings. Then pick a Vertical Rig in Setup: Extract crops 9:16 out of the wide frame, Rotated turns the camera on its side.

Turning the phone does not switch the viewfinder. The orientation is a choice in Settings, so the frame stays put while you move around.

  1. Open Settings and set Orientation to Vertical.
  2. Tap the strip at the top of the viewfinder to open Setup.
  3. Under Vertical Rig, pick Extract if you will crop a 9:16 frame out of the camera's wide frame, or Rotated if the camera will be turned on its side.
  4. Frame and shoot as usual. The rig is saved with each shot and printed in the shot list.

Each rig gives its own field of view, because a crop and a turned camera use the sensor differently. On iPad, vertical works the same way.

If that didn't work

If the frame looks too tight in Extract, check the recording mode in Setup: the crop comes out of that mode's size. Switch Orientation back to Horizontal for landscape work.
