Find your way around the viewfinder

The strip across the top names the camera, mode and aspect and opens Setup. The rail beside the picture changes lenses, the shutter sits on the other side, and the tools along the top open everything else.

Held sideways, the controls sit in two rails either side of the frame, for two thumbs. In Vertical (Settings, Orientation) they gather in a cluster under the frame, for one hand.

The viewfinder: camera, mode and aspect at the top, the lens rail on the left, the shutter on the right

The parts

  • Top strip: camera, recording mode and aspect. Tap anywhere on it to open Setup.
  • Top tools, left to right: Sun, Looks, Overlays, Figures, Manual controls, Favorites and Settings.
  • Lens rail: the focal length and lens series between two arrows. On a prime the arrows change lenses; on a zoom they turn the barrel, and holding one zooms. OVERVIEW and FAVORITES sit above it.
  • Camera chips: AUTO and one chip per back camera of the phone, such as 0.5×, 1× and 3×.
  • Shutter side: PHOTO and VIDEO, the shutter, and the last frame. Tap the last frame to open Shots, or hold it to open that frame.
  • Info strip under the frame: focal length, field of view, the phone camera chosen for the frame and its zoom, and the depth of field.

Gestures on the picture

  • Tap hides every read-out and control but the shutter, so only the picture shows. Tap again to bring them back.
  • Double-tap turns on OVERVIEW: every lens in the kit as frame lines at once.
  • Pinch turns a zoom lens, or fine-zooms on a prime.
  • Swipe across the picture for the previous or next lens.

The first time the viewfinder opens, a screen headed "Hold it like a camera." walks through these. Tap Start to close it.

If that didn't work

If the top strip reads No camera, or the capsule under it says "Choose a camera and a lens", Setup is not finished yet. Tap the strip and pick a camera, a mode and at least one lens.
