Aspect ratios, frame lines and a second frame line

The aspect ratio in Setup crops your delivery frame out of the recording mode. A secondary frame line in Overlays draws a second ratio inside it, for example a 2.39 extraction inside a 1.85 delivery.

The aspect is a center crop of the mode's recorded area. Native means nothing is cropped: the frame is the shape of the mode itself.

  1. Tap the top strip to open Setup.
  2. Pick a ratio from the chips on the Aspect Ratio row, or tap More for the full list.
  3. For a ratio that is not listed, type it in the custom field, as a number (2.39) or as width:height (16:9), and tap Set. It accepts anything from 1:10 to 10:1.

The list: 2.40 Scope (broadcast-safe), 2.39 Scope (DCI), 2.35 Scope (pre-1970), 2.00 Univisium, 1.90 (17:9 DCI), 1.85 Flat, 1.78 (16:9 HD), 1.66 European widescreen, 1.37 Academy, 1.33 (4:3), 1:1 Square, 4:5 portrait and 9:16 vertical. A tall ratio adds a Vertical Rig row to Setup.

With anamorphic glass fitted, the Aspect Ratio row also shows the desqueezed size.

A second frame line

  1. Open Overlays from the tools at the top of the viewfinder.
  2. Turn on Secondary frame line and pick its Ratio.
  3. Turn on Shade outside to darken the picture beyond it, and set how dark with the Shade slider.

The frame lines' color and thickness are in Settings, Frame lines: White, Amber, Purple or Black.

If that didn't work

If the frame looks too tight after picking a ratio, check the mode first: the crop is taken from the mode's size. The field of view page shows how a crop changes the angle.
