Anamorphic lenses and desqueeze

Pick an anamorphic lens series and Viewfinder desqueezes the frame for you, using the series' squeeze. A custom series takes any squeeze from 1.0 to 2.05.

The gear list holds 108 anamorphic lens series with squeezes of 1.3x, 1.33x, 1.5x, 1.6x, 1.65x, 1.8x and 2.0x. The list also flags 194 recording modes made for anamorphic, such as 6:5 and 4:3 modes.

  1. Open Setup and choose an anamorphic recording mode, for example 3.3K 6:5 on an ALEXA 35.
  2. Build the lens kit from an anamorphic series. Its squeeze is applied to the frame width, so a 2x lens on a 6:5 mode frames close to scope.
  3. Pick a delivery aspect, such as 2.39, to see the extraction you will finish at.

On a camera turned on its side for vertical, the squeeze moves to the vertical axis.

If that didn't work

If your series is not in the list, add it as a custom lens series with its squeeze. The depth of field panel does not apply the squeeze, and says so on screen. For the background, read anamorphic lenses explained, or work out a desqueeze with the anamorphic calculator.
