Lens adapters and clip-on lenses
A speed booster or extender goes under Lens Adapter in Setup and changes the focal length. A wide converter clipped over the phone goes under Phone Attachment and changes what the phone can see.
- Tap the strip at the top of the viewfinder to open Setup.
- Under Lens Adapter, pick 0.64x, 0.71x or 0.8x for a focal reducer, or 1.4x or 2.0x for an extender. Custom takes any factor from 0.1x to 10x.
- If a converter lens is clipped over the phone, pick it under Phone Attachment: 0.45x, 0.5x, 0.6x or 0.75x, or a custom factor.
A lens adapter changes the effective focal length, and the depth of field panel uses the working stop it gives. A phone attachment only widens what the phone can show, which helps when your lens sees wider than the phone's own ultra wide camera.
If that didn't work
When the lens sees wider than any camera on the phone, the part the phone cannot cover is drawn as a plain band (purple, charcoal or black, in Settings). The band is the part of your lens's frame the phone cannot see. A clip-on wide converter fills it.
