Calibrate your iPhone's cameras
Go to Settings, Calibration and press MEASURE on the camera you want to check. Point at something of known width from a known distance and slide until its edges meet the two marks.
Viewfinder reads each phone camera's field of view from iOS while it runs, so a new iPhone works without an app update. Individual phones still differ a little, and calibration takes that out.
- Open Settings and choose Calibration.
- Pick the phone camera to check (ultra wide, wide or telephoto) and press MEASURE.
- Point the phone at something whose width you know, from a distance you know. A door or a whiteboard works well.
- Slide until the object's edges meet the two marks. Viewfinder keeps that correction.
The correction is stored as a percent of the frame width and used every time that camera is in play. Reset Calibration clears the correction for every camera.
If that didn't work
Make sure the right camera is in use: in low light or very close focus, iOS can refuse the longer camera and stay on a wider one (see which iPhone camera Viewfinder uses). Measure again in good light from at least a couple of meters.
